Reflection

After being placed in our Fruit-Bowl group, we introduced ourselves and started talking about our interests. They were very similar so that was a nice starting point of our project. We talked about our majors and interests in feelings, senses, spirituality, language, nature and mapping.

The second week we continued to discuss possible topics for our project. Nature, sustainability and climate change were some of the themes that appealed to all of us and we decided to expand on that. That’s how we came up with the idea of creating a speculative story about the future. We speculated about a future where humanity finds its way back to nature after a climate disaster.

To make the idea a bit more accessible, we came up with our main character Wunt who symbolizes life in this speculative future. While creating our main character we thought about gender, generation and lifestyle.
We also considered that Wunt carries items in their bag and we speculated about that too. After the climate crisis, a lot of plastic has remained on the planet that this new generation can use again after the crisis for new purposes. But how do they use those objects and for what are questions that we worked with.

Thinking about these objects gave us the idea of presenting a museum as a final product in which we exhibit these objects. But after a feedback moment with the group, we realized that a museum is really something from this time period and how would we have gathered these items from the future if we are in the present?

That's why we went in a different direction and for our final presentation we are going to open up our speculative story to the group. This means that everyone can create their own image with our story and we will do that through a group meditation.

Since we wanted to make something physical as well, using our major skills, we chose to present the main highlights of our research in a printed zine which we will of course bring to the final presentation.

It was a lot of fun thinking and speculating about the future and we came to interesting conclusions and dilemmas. At the same time it was also a challenge to share and summarize our thoughts and speculations because it was quite a lot and our fantasy went in many directions. In the end we managed to make all of these ideas more accessible and we hope to let everyone's fantasy and imagination flow as much as ours did.
